Henderson Design Page
Jim & Angie - Below you will find the things we discussed concerning your home. I am also showing the door moved to the window wall to allow for cabinets in the kitchen area. Just a note, I was having trouble getting the lighting right in my program because of the high ceilings. Therefore, the white walls look super white but I actually used "Snowbound" and it is not that bright. Your fireplace would definitely make a statement and be a wow factor with any of these options. I know you only like to display things on your walls that really mean something to you and that's why I am showing simple wood accents to fill up the space around your tall fireplace.

Fireplace Makeover
Option 1 - I suggest painting that entire back wall with Sherwin Williams Snowbound. I am showing 2" strips of wood painted black and nailed from floor to ceiling. The wood beams shown are 8" x 8" with the bottom being deeper to serve as seating. I placed a few things on the shelves but they could be left empty. They are substantial enough to be art on their own. I am showing the granite in the floor but it really does not go with any of these modern designs. That would be up to you whether you'd want to leave it or not. I also recommend painting the stair rail balusters black until you are ready to replace them.
Option 2 - Again, I would paint the entire back wall with Snowbound and paint the balusters black. In this design I am showing large slate black tiles with black grout. You could lay them either vertically or horizontally. You could even use LVT (link below) which would cut way down on the weight. There are lots of tile options if you like this look. I cut theses shelves down to 6" x 6" and again, they stand alone as art elements. I have modern cabinets mounted to the wall on each side of the fireplace.

Option 3 - This option is a concrete finish on the entire fireplace. This could be accomplished several ways, including tile or a skim coat. I left the same shelves as option 1 but they could easily be changed out.
Kitchen Backsplash Examples
Below you will find several different examples of backsplash. There is tile that goes to the ceiling, large slabs of backsplash, and vertical tiles that could mimic the fireplace.
Below are some ideas for the kitchen shelves along with product links, just click on each picture to be redirected.
Bedding Recommendations
I could not find anything with a bit of green in it that I like so I went with solid white. It is classic and color can be added with pillows. Click on each picture to be redirected to purchase site.
