Modern Farmhouse Design Elements
Thanks to all the home improvement shows, Modern Farmhouse style is all the rage and is not going away any time soon. This style is all about comfort and you do not have to actually live on a farm! It mixes country and modern elements achieving an overall more modern look.
All modern farmhouse interiors share a color palette of warm or cool neutrals with layers of natural wood tones. Wood beams, floors, and furniture are a must. Look for salvaged woods that have some wear and tear. Contrasting black elements add a bit of modern edge. You can add pops of color but stick to muted tones to achieve that nature-inspired feel that is typical of this style.
Metals are another key element in a Modern Farmhouse style. Brushed metals tend to work best. Do not be afraid of mixing metals, they can all work together in the same space! Dark gunmetal adds elegance and contrast to any space.
Add plenty of textures. From natural fiber rugs to knitted blankets and faux-fur pillows, a mix of rich textures will give depth and achieve an effortlessly stylish look in your home.
Furniture should be a mix of comfy sofas, upholstered chairs, and you can use a mix of modern and "country" pieces. Be careful not to add to many distressed pieces or décor as this will lean toward the rustic vibe.
Finally, adding bead board, shiplap, or wainscoting into your home is classic farmhouse. They add great dimension and texture. Try starting small and consider adding bead board to the walls in your bathroom or shiplap in your living room.
